Fun and Fitness Combined!
A fantastic way to improve your overall fitness is with a pair of inline skates. The rewards for the leg muscles are fairly evident, but there are a whole host of other health benefits to be gained from the sport which help the entire body.
Roller skating of all types gives you a great aerobic workout and provides an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise on a par with running and biking. The rhythmic swaying from side to side also helps to build the muscles in the thighs and buttocks, giving a great anaerobic workout too. As with any form of fitness, it will also help you to burn calories and lose weight.
Strapping on some inline skates in particular will help improve your posture as you regularly work on your balance, as well as your coordination. Just make sure you always remember to wear some skating pads though, for those times when your balance literally gives way!
If you are going to incorporate roller skating as part of your weekly fitness regime, consider purchasing some specialised fitness skates, which will increase the effects of the benefits mentioned above. Fitness skates are usually made of more hard-wearing materials than leisure skates and are more flexible – great if you want to use them for specific sports such as hockey or speed skating.
And after your weekly workouts have strengthened your muscles and increased your endurance, pick up some nifty tricks and try your fitness skates out on some aggressive inline skating – just don’t forget your skating pads!
